- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons milk
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F. In a large bowl, add softened butter and sugar. Beat butter and sugar with a wooden spoon or with an electric mixer on medium to high speed until combined. Add egg and vanilla and beat mixture until thoroughly combined.
- Add whole wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Stir mixture and add milk. Mix just until combined.
- Shape into 1-inch- to 1/1/2-inch balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Flatten slightly with bottom of a glass dipped in a small plate sprinkled with granulated mixture. (Note: The sugar prevents the glass from sticking to the cookie dough)
- Bake cookies 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool.
Tip:
- This perfect sugar cookie provides a whole grain boost. It’s made with whole wheat flour, which is much higher in fiber than all-purpose flour. Whole wheat flour aids in digestion and satiety, and is rich in iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, and potassium.
