The Downtown Evanston Farmers Market is back for 2018 with nine new vendors!

Saturday, May 5 marks the beginning of the Downtown Evanston Farmers Market’s 43 season.

All of the nearly 60 farmers, ranchers and artisanal producers likely won’t be at the first few markets. Cold, wet weather has made it a little challenging for farmers to get things planted. Still, there are sure to be a lot of good reasons to visit on the first market Saturday, and the property at University and Maple will fill up rapidly with purveyors of fruits, vegetables, meat, flowers, cheese, eggs and bakery items.

Market Manager Myra Gorman shared with us some details about the new vendors adding their wares to the variety already available:

  • Betwixt Flower Farm not surprisingly, will be bringing a selection of flowers to market.
  • Emmy and J Gourmet produces sweet and savory mixes for dips and spreads.
  • Windmill Ginger Beer produces a delightful array of ginger beers.
  • Noir d’Ebene features chocolates and baked items.
  • Fed Up Ferments is a live culture micro batch producer of Tibicos.
  • Kombucha Brava creates and bottles kombucha.
  • Green Fire Farm will offer a range of beef, pork, chicken, duck, and turkey.
  • Dave’s Coffee Cakes makes delicious coffee cakes.
  • Soap of the Earth is an artisanal producer of goat soap

Several of our new vendors are veterans of the indoor markets, and all the new participants offer the same high standards as our legion of returning farmers and artisans

USING LINK CARDS AT THE MARKET

The Downtown Market accepts Illinois Link cards, so low-income shoppers can utilize SNAP benefits when they shop the market. Friends of Evanston Farmers Markets have matched SNAP dollars since 2011. You can find details about this year’s matching program by clicking here.
