No Bees, No Food! Get Educated with Heller Nature Center

We’ve all read about the worldwide collapse of honeybee hives, maybe so much that we’re dangerously becoming immune to this news. But Mark Winston, biologist and author of forthcoming book, Bee Time: Lessons From the Hive, wrote an informative essay in the New York Times (July 15, 2014) that compels us to pay attention!  His research points to the many factors that endanger our bees. Yes, ours! Thankfully, this article contains hope; we can help by supporting better agricultural practices. Read his article here.

This Saturday, July 19 from 9-11am, you can learn a lot about bees from the naturalists of the Heller Nature Center in Highland Park. There, on their 97 acres, their own bees pollinate local plants and produce honey. Bring the kids to Friends’ tent in the southwest corner of the market where they’ll see an active hive!
